BOB TURNER INDUCTED INTO BNSW HALL OF FAME
September 5, 2023
Congratulations to Blacktown City FC Executive Chairman, Bob Turner, on the announcement this week that he will be inducted into the Basketball NSW Hall of Fame in 2023.
When you hear the name Bob Turner
, particularly in Sydney, your mind travels back to the halcyon days of the Kings at the Sydney Entertainment Centre in the early 1990s where he helped shape the iconic franchise and transformed basketball in the Harbour City. But the genius promoter/coach was so much more than that, starting a remarkable NBL coaching career in Newcastle with the Falcons before establishing a mini-dynasty in the 1980s with back-to-back NBL champions the Canberra Cannons. He also made a significant impact off the court, being part of the group in 2010 that brought the Sydney Kings back from extinction after two years in the NBL wilderness.
BOB’S ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
• NBL Head Coach – 14 years
• Head Coach – 19 years
• NBL Hall of Fame
• Youngest Coach to win an NBL title
• NBL owner – Canberra Cannons 1986, Sydney Kings 2000, Singapore Slingers 2006
• Twelve-year association as Coach/Owner/Executive Director/General Manager of the Sydney Kings.
• 20 NBL seasons with Newcastle Falcons (1979 to 1982), Canberra Cannons (1983 to 1986), Sydney Kings (1989 to 1995), Sydney Kings (2000 to 2002), Singapore Slingers (2006 to 2010), Sydney Kings (2010 to 2011)
• Leadership role in every capacity since Captaining his High School basketball team in 1971
